Confessions of a Soap Opera Bibliophile

I love soap operas and I love soap opera books. Over the years, I fell into the habit of collecting them, and now I just can't help myself; if I find a soap book of interest, I just have to have it! To date, I have 28 soap opera related books in three different languages--and I'm still looking for new (or old) books of interest to add to my collection. What makes me especially proud is that I have actually read all but two of my soap books. I guess my summer reading plans for 2011 are all set, huh? All that is left is to find a nice beach! :-)

I remember one of the very first soap books I got like it was yesterday. It was 1996 and The Bold and the Beautiful was gearing up to celebrate ten years on the air that following year in March. Just before the holidays, 'The Bold and the Beautiful: A Tenth Anniversary Celebration' by Robert Waldron was published. A fellow B&B fan and Internet friend of about six months surprised me with a copy of the book for Christmas. I was ecstatic! B&B was my favorite soap at the time, favorite TV show in fact, and to own a beautiful coffee-table book dedicated solely to my favorite show was more than I could fathom. It's funny how much joy and elation one little book can bring! For sure, I have spent many, many hours admiring the beautiful color pictures and reminisced about favorite past storylines and moments.
